The William W. Dow Memorial Beginning Farmer and Rancher Scholarship is designed to give new and beginning farmers and ranchers a low-cost opportunity to participate in our Sustainable Agriculture Conference Nov. 15-17, 2013 in Durham, NC.
The application period for William W. Dow Beginning Farmer and Rancher Scholarships is closed. Donations to the fund are still gratefully accepted.
The Sustainable Agriculture Conference is an unparalleled opportunity for beginning farmers to learn how to be successful in their sustainable farming enterprises. Special programming for beginning farmers includes: finding land, farm business finances, access to community-based capital, using body mechanics and tools to stay healthy longer, and season extension techniques. Other conference workshops cover cutting edge issues in sustainable agriculture, including organic weed control, soil fertility, pasture-based livestock, food safety and processing, and direct marketing. All of it is essential information for new farms to thrive.
Scholarship recipients are eligible to attend all regular conference activities, beginning with the dinner and keynote on Friday, Nov. 15, and including all workshops, plenary sessions, meals and networking sessions on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17. The scholarship does not cover the pre-conference workshops and tours held on Friday, Nov. 15, or travel & lodging costs. Recipients may register for pre-conference activities separately. The application process closed on August 21, 2013. All applicants will be notified of their award status by September 3, 2013. The value of this scholarship totals $300.
