Far West Farm Tour by Southern Appalachian Family Farms

Southern Appalachian Family Farms proudly presents the 2015 Far West Farm Tour June 26 & 27.  Fifteen farms in Cherokee and Clay Counties are welcoming visitors to a variety of agricultural farm businesses.  The Far West Farm Tour is a two day, self-guided auto tour.  You can visit any farm on any day for the cost is $20 per passenger car.  Farm passes are available at, Cedar Valley Farmers Market, Clay County Chamber of Commerce, Hayesville Evening Market and participating farms.  Pick up your Far West Farm Tour map at these locations, many retail locations or at participating farms.

The choices we make as consumers when purchasing food impacts our local economies and our personal health.  By buying fresh farm products we can support local farms, and promote a focused, health-conscious lifestyle.  Join us for our Far West Farm Tour to discover how Agri-tourism and fresh farm products can affect your community and life.  Local tastes better.

The Farm Tour annual events connect consumers and producers and educates the community about the importance of local food and agriculture. We are excited to welcome 12 farms (3 new!) in Ashe County this year and there is plenty to see. Don’t miss: Waterfall Farms’s maple syrup production, the beautiful vistas at Old Orchard Creek Farm, and Landmark Farms Paca Palace Fiber Shop and demonstrations.

Watauga County

Our second Farm Tour event of the season will feature 5 gardens in Boone from 9 am – 12 pm and 10 farms in Watauga County from 2 – 6 PM. We are excited to partner with Lettuce Learn to offer special kids activities at each of the garden stops in the morning.
Throughout the day, there are a variety of learning experiences, activities, and products at the farms that offer fun for the whole family. Don’t miss out on Apple Hill Farm’s animal-loving atmosphere and learning from three generations working together at Shipley Farm.

Sustainable Spirits: Durham July 2015

The NC Composting Council, Self-Help Credit Union, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, and Eastern Carolina Organics are teaming up for the July 2015 Sustainable Spirits in Durham!  It will be on July 21 from 5:30-8pm on 2210 E Pettigrew St, Durham, NC 27703.  There will be local food and drinks available, so be sure to save the date and invite friends, family, and colleagues to enjoy an evening with great company.
