Friends of CFSA

Friends of CFSA are volunteer leaders, locally grouped by geography, who embrace our guiding values and are committed to advancing our mission.

Friends of CFSA have two main roles

  1. Raising funds for CFSA, including:
    • Identifying, cultivating and soliciting donors
    • Planning, promoting and producing fundraising and friend-raising events
    • Using social capital to open doors in the philanthropic community of corporations, foundations and individuals
  2. Raising CFSA’s visibility and stature, including:
    • Raising public awareness of CFSA’s agenda by serving as a local ambassador
    • Increasing CFSA’s political influence through public policy advocacy work
    • Facilitating contacts  with regional and national leaders in the sustainable agriculture community to enhance collaboration and support of CFSA’s work

Expectations of Service

  • Members choose to join (rather than being elected), and are as involved as time allows; ideally members can participate on at least one project annually
  • Members are encouraged to attend, at least annually, Friends group meetings to brainstorm ideas and collaborate on efforts, and increase understanding of the issues surrounding sustainable agriculture
  • Members will be asked to make a personally meaningful contribution annually
  • Members will facilitate contacts within business, social, political, and philanthropic circles towards securing support for CFSA
  • Members will serve as ambassadors in promoting CFSA’s programs and services, and expanding our network of individuals who can support areas such as fundraising, public awareness, and political influence.

About CFSA

OUR MISSION

We help people in the Carolinas grow and eat local, organic food by advocating for fair farm and food policies, building the systems that organic family farms need to thrive, and educating communities about local, organic farming.

OUR VISION

Create a regional food system that is good for consumers, good for farmers and farmworkers, and good for the land.

OUR VALUES

As an organization:

  • We champion a food system that is secure and stable.
  • We respect the role of the farmer, processor, distributor and consumer in the system.
  • We support efforts to provide consumers healthy, safe, quality food.  These efforts include:
    • promoting organic standards,
    • preserving non-genetically modified seeds and heritage breeds and
    • recovering locally-adapted breeds and seeds.
  • We revere our natural resources and are responsible for protecting these resources for future generations.
  • We believe providing resources for the producer, purchaser and policymaker encourages accountability from the field to the fork.
