Farm/Organization Description:

A few words from Go fund Me Organizer, Taylor Hayes:

Hi, I’m Taylor Hayes, milk plant operator at Ran-Lew Dairy in Snow Camp, NC. For the past seven years, I’ve been working with and learning from legendary dairy farmer, Randy Lewis. He’s both my mentor and dear friend. Here’s a great clip of Randy.

Randy is one of the last dairy farmers in Alamance County, and he has been farming his family’s 5th generation dairy farm his entire life. Milking ~50 cows, Ran-Lew Dairy allows milk drinkers to enjoy milk “the way it used to be” with cream on top.

Early Sunday morning, May 7, Randy was attacked by a bull in the pasture. He suffered broken ribs, punctures in both lungs, and broken bones in his face, back, and collarbone. Randy was life-flighted to UNC Hospital where he’s in the surgical ICU awaiting extensive medical care and reconstructive surgery.

We are reeling from the shock and worry for our friend.

Not only are we impacted, but so is the farm. We are pulling together resources to cover Randy’s indefinite absence. To maintain the dairy, we have hired help to begin on Tuesday, May 9. We’re still trying to grasp the full financial impact of this incident, but this fundraiser will help pay for Randy’s medical costs and the additional labor while he is unable to work.

We are looking forward to a celebration when Randy is back on his feet. Although a barn dance may not be in the cards for a while, this will be an opportunity to gather in person, share a meal, and tell our favorite Randy stories. Your donation is your ticket to celebrate with Randy and helps to strengthen the future of the farm through this challenging time.

If you haven’t gotten to know Randy yet, we invite you to witness his impact and humble spirit in the “Last Barn Dance,” a short documentary that shares the story of the farm, the small dairy industry, and how Randy manages to put a smile on the face of everyone he meets.

Those of you that know Randy know he would never ask us to set up a GoFundMe on his behalf. As we cannot seek his guidance in his current state, we’re operating under his guiding principle that it’s better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.
