Congress is gearing up to draft the next farm bill. Our local food systems need significant action, and we have the power to make it happen! Farm bill reauthorization advocacy starts with supporting The Strengthening Local Processing Act (SLPA, S.354/H.R. 945).

Let’s take that first crucial step towards investing in our communities, small and medium livestock processors, and the diverse farmers they serve. The SLPA is our ticket to address livestock processing infrastructure needs. We can also expand technical assistance and create new regional and interstate trade opportunities for small livestock processors.

Act now to support stronger local food systems and small and medium livestock processors. Please rally behind the SLPA, and let’s show Congress that we won’t settle for anything less than a sustainable, thriving future for our communities.

Will you take action today to support the Strengthening Local Processing Act?

Please call your member of Congress today!

Step 1: Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

Step 2: Leave a message for your senators and members of Congress like this:

“Hi, my name is ____, and I’m a constituent and a ____ [farmer, parent, concerned citizen, etc.].

“As your constituent, I care about livestock production! The Strengthening Local Processing Act will support livestock producers and processors by expanding their capacity to meet consumers’ needs. Will you consider cosponsoring the act?

“Thank you!”

Step 3: You can also sign a Letter of Support that is being circulated by the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, of which CFSA is a member.

Thanks for taking action!
